Description Condensing and Cooling in Pot-Still and Patent-Still Distillation
J.A. (Joseph Alfred) Nettleton (1851-1939) began his career in the Laboratory of Inland Revenue, Somerset House and later became a Fellow at the Institute of Brewing. Publishing several books and papers on brewing and distilling, his first major work was 1893’s “The Manufacture of Spirit…” He spent the next few years studying condensing and cooling principles as applied in differing types of distillation processes. Published in 1897 and intended as a supplement to the 1893 book, “Condensing and Cooling in Pot-Still and Patent-Still Distillation” is the culmination of his research. Portions of this book were later included in 1913’s “The Manufacture of Whisky and Plain Spirit.”For the first time since the original release, you have the opportunity to read the complete work as Nettleton first published. This edition features a new introduction discussing the book’s relation to the “…Manufacture…” books, a summary of what was carried into the 1913 title and new biographical information as well as a comprehensive Nettleton bibliography.

DISTILLATION - Spiritsfully ~ condenser; the coil or condenser, a helical tube with a vertical axis on the walls of which the vapours condense due to the cooling effect of the liquid circulating around it. The oldest appliances had a rectilinear condenser more or less inclined. Distillation with a pot still often requires two distillations to achieve a desired proof. The .
(PDF) Selection and Design of Condensers / Gerard Hawkins ~ 5 LAYOUT CONSIDERATIONS 5.1 Distillation Column Condensers One of the major factors influencing the layout, and sometimes the choice, of the condenser for a distillation column is whether the reflux liquid is to return to the column under gravity, or a pumped reflux system is to be used.
Zero water Wastage Condenser Column Cooling System for All ~ inlet of the condenser column for condensing the vapour generated in the distillation still. There is no effect on the quality of distilled water produced, because cooling water in the condenser column unit never comes in contact with water vapors. For small and medium sized distillation apparatus (i.e. 1.5 â 3.0 liter capacity) about 50

Basics of-distillation - SlideShare ~ Basic distillation apparatus consists of three parts: the still or retort, for heating the liquid; the condenser, for cooling the vapours; and the receiver, for collecting the distillate. The pot still A pot still is a type of still used in distilling spirits such as whisky or brandy.
How to Make "Moonshine" - The Ultimate Guide â Clawhammer ~ Simply attach a garden hose from the faucet to the lower tee on the condenser and connect the waste water hose to the upper tee. A slow trickle of water from the faucet is all that is needed to cool the condenser. After the condensing water has been turned on make sure the waste water is watering plants, going down a drain, or recirculating. If .

Chapter 2 - Refrigerated Condensers - US EPA ~ Figure 2.2 depicts a typical configuration for a refrigerated surface condenser system as an emission control device. The basic equipment required for a refrigerated condenser system includes a VOC condenser, a refrigeration unit(s), and auxiliary equipment (e.g., precooler, recovery/storage tank, pump/blower, and piping).
Pot Still Distillation: How A Pot Still Works / Distiller ~ Pot Still Distillation 101. Pot stills are used to make many of the worldâs great spirit styles, such as single malt scotch, cognac, many rums, and most mezcal. Conversely, large industrial column stills make the bulk of the alcohol produced on Earth. But the rudimentarily reliable pot still remains king in some important circles.
Pot still - Wikipedia ~ A pot still is a type of distillation apparatus or still used to distill flavoured liquors such as whisky or cognac, but not rectified spirit because they are bad at separating congeners.Pot stills operate on a batch distillation basis (as opposed to a Coffey or column stills which operate on a continuous basis). Traditionally constructed from copper, pot stills are made in a range of shapes .

Types of Condenser - Home Distillation - Buffalo Brewing Blog ~ The survival still is a classic example of a flat sheet condenser. The plastic sheet has plenty of area, but makes a poor condenser because it is not well cooled and also has high thermal resistance. Placing one end in the shade improves the performance, and providing more cooling through evaporation makes it work even better.
Cognac Distillation: How does it work? / Cognac Expert ~ The magic cognac pot still! How does it work? Distillation takes place in traditionally shaped copper stills, also known as âAlambic Charentaisâ. Also known as alembic, it depends on the language. experimental chemistry - Choosing the right condenser ~ The Friedrich is very useful in addition to a standard Liebig condenser, when placed at the end of the distillation setup its cooling surface makes it unavoidable for ethers, etc. BTW: The Dimroth is the condenser of choice for soxlhet extractions, since the drip tip on the terminal loop of the spiral allows a constant dripping on longitudinal .
Distillation Of Alcohol And De Naturing ~ The pot still is what we will be using and talking about. Home Distilling - How to Make Booze If you want to know how much alcohol to use to make a known quantity, multiply the final amount by (weak/strong) eg: to make 1.125L of 40% alcohol using spirit at 75%, you will need to use 1.125 x (40/75) = 0.6L of the 75% spirit, then top it up to 1 .
